Controlling currents through molecular wires
نویسندگان
چکیده
We investigate the possibility of controlling by means of external laser fields both the current through molecular wires and the corresponding noise properties. It is found that an appropriate off-resonant driving field reduces the coherent transport across the molecule resulting in a strong current suppression. The relative level of transport noise, characterized by a Fano factor, exhibits characteristic maxima and minima near regimes of current suppression. In a three-terminal configuration, the field allows one to steer the current selectively towards one terminal. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. PACS: 85.65.+h; 33.80.-b; 73.63.-b; 05.60.Gg

Robust ultrafast currents in molecular wires through Stark shifts.
A novel way to induce ultrafast currents in molecular wires using two incident laser frequencies, omega and 2omega, is demonstrated. The mechanism relies on Stark shifts, instead of near-resonance photon absorption, to transfer population to the excited states and exploits the temporal profile of the field to generate phase-controllable transport. Calculations in a trans- polyacetylene oligomer...

The intense investigations of molecular devices, as an alternative to standard electronics components, underlines the need to model the conduction mechanisms of nano-scale conductors. In addition to measurements of the elastic conductance through point-contacts, atomic-wires and molecules, recent experiments have shown inelastic tunneling currents through, for example, a hydrogen molecule attac...

The demand for increased miniaturization of integrated circuits has opened the way to the emerging field of molecular electronics. Recent experimental studies have established that single molecules or a finite ensemble of self-assembled molecules can perform the basic functions of conventional electronic components (i.e., transistors, wires and diodes). In particular, it has been demonstrated t...

متن کاملControlling the conductance of molecular wires by defect engineering
Understanding the charge transport mechanisms in nanoscale structures is essential for the development of molecular electronic devices. Charge transport through one-dimensional (1D) molecular systems connected between two contacts is influenced by several parameters, such as the electronic structure of the molecule and the presence of disorder and defects. In this work, we have modeled 1D molec...
